From Lödöse via Uddevalla to Shanghai

Gustaf Mattsson grew up in Lödöse where, at the age of 15, he began to work at the local shipyard. After studying to become an engineer as well as working for some time at Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstad [Shipbuilders, Engineers and Repairers], Gustaf moved North. Gustaf had found employment with Gustaf B. Thordén at the Uddevalla shipyard and as a skillful draughtsman, he slowly worked his way up to being the head of the drawing offices.

After 12 years at the Uddevalla shipyard, Gustaf took the leap and started his own firm. In August 1961, Gustaf opened Mattsson Optisk Ritbyrå [Drawing Consultancy]. In a single effort, the corner stone had been laid for what was to become today, some 50 years later, the Mattsson Group.

UFAB was set up from one of LM Ericsson’s workshops that closed in 1968. From that very day, the company has gone from strength to strength acquiring more and more customers over the years. Even the customer database has been extended to cover new sectors such as offshore, medicine, aeronautics, agricultural equipment, wind power and energy.

In 2000, the company set up its own construction department to extend its range of services.

To further consolidate its offer and to meet market demand, UFAB Shanghai was set up in 2010 with its own metalworking and assembly plant.

In 2012, the two UFAB companies owned by the Mattsson Group merged together with Junoverken under the name of UFAB.

As part of the merger plan, the new company has made a great effort to increase brand awareness, give greater visibility to and to fully modernize its production units with the introduction of clear work flows and structural improvements to better serve you, our customers.

This background strategy and its resulting policy mean that we can always live up to our company slogan – Always Improve.
