Phase Two of UFAB’s production investment programme strengthens precision machining, multi-task manufacturing and production resilience.

Following the successful relocation to its new manufacturing facility in Uddevalla, Sweden, UFAB is now entering the second phase of its long-term production investment programme.

This autumn, two new machine tools from Makino and Okuma will be installed, expanding UFAB’s capabilities in advanced CNC milling, multi-task turning and high-precision component manufacturing.

The investment reflects a clear shift in customer requirements.

Increasingly, manufacturers are looking beyond machining capacity alone. They are seeking production partners capable of improving delivery performance, increasing manufacturing flexibility and supporting more resilient supply chains.

“We see a clear change in our customer dialogues. More companies are involving us earlier in their product development and manufacturing planning. They are looking for a partner that can contribute to production performance, with a holistic mindset,” says Niclas Samuelsson, CEO of UFAB.

As manufacturing partnerships become more integrated, the demands placed on suppliers also increase. Customers expect broader manufacturing capabilities, stable production processes and the capacity to manage increasingly complex machining operations within a single production environment.

To support this development, UFAB has invested in two complementary technologies.

Makino A500iR – High-performance 5-axis horizontal machining

The Makino A500iR introduces advanced 5-axis simultaneous horizontal machining for complex, high-precision components.

Designed for demanding machining applications, the machine combines rigidity, thermal stability and high dynamic performance to achieve excellent surface quality and repeatable accuracy.

Key specifications

  • 5-axis simultaneous horizontal machining centre
  • X/Y/Z travel: 900 × 750 × 800 mm
  • Maximum workpiece size: Ø900 mm × H600 mm
  • High-speed machining of complex geometries
  • Excellent repeatability and dimensional accuracy

Okuma MULTUS B300II W – Advanced done-in-one machining

The Okuma MULTUS B300II W adds an entirely new capability to UFAB’s production platform.

By combining CNC turning, milling and 5-axis indexing within a single machine, components can be completed in one setup, reducing lead times, minimising handling and improving dimensional consistency.

Its dual-spindle configuration enables true done-in-one machining, making it particularly well suited for complex components requiring multiple machining operations.

Key specifications

  • Multi-task CNC turning and milling centre
  • 5-axis indexing
  • Dual spindles
  • Maximum turning capacity: Ø630 mm × L900 mm
  • Complete machining in a single setup
  • Reduced setup times and improved process stability

A broader production platform

Combined with previous investments, UFAB now offers CNC milling capacity ranging from precision components of approximately 10 mm up to large workpieces measuring 6,000 mm.

The investment also establishes a new capability in advanced multi-task turning, allowing customers to consolidate more manufacturing operations with a single production partner.

The market response has been immediate. The first production order for the new turning capability was secured before the machine has even been installed.

Investing in Industrial Performance

For UFAB, the investment is not simply about expanding machine capacity.

It is part of a long-term strategy the company refers to as Industrial Performance™—helping customers improve manufacturing performance through technical capability, production stability and closer engineering collaboration.

“Our ambition is to create value beyond the component itself. If we can help customers improve delivery performance, reduce manufacturing risk and build more predictable production systems, we have created a stronger partnership. That is why we invest the way we do,” says Niclas Samuelsson.

The second investment phase marks another milestone in the development of UFAB’s production platform, combining world-leading CNC technology with engineering expertise and long-term manufacturing partnerships.

As customer requirements continue to evolve, UFAB continues to invest in the capabilities needed to support the next generation of industrial manufacturing.
